The wood is water and weather proofed first and may be termite proofed as well when needed. Suspended timber ground floors consist of the finished timber floorboards being attached to floor joists which are suspended above the subfloor of the foundation. A suspended timber floor is the chosen way for many builders and consumers because of the following facts. These floor joists are raised above the subfloor on small supporting walls called tassel walls or sleeper walls.

This creates a small gap and allows ventilation and air movement to prevent damp forming in the timber joists. It is more cost effective in residential areas. It has simply the best construction way for sloping sites low lying areas or sites with bad climatically conditions. But you can still see the strips of wood.

Upper floor suspended timber floors are built in a similar way although the floor joists may be designed so that they form part of the roof truss in an attic for example. Ceiling joists are usually 2 by 6s or sometimes 2 by 4s if it is an older home. A floor s framework is made up mostly of wooden joists that run parallel to one another at regular intervals. Floor joists are typically 2 by 8s 2 by 10s or 2 by 12s.

Suspended timber floors which are typically found in older houses are normally made from timber floorboards which are then attached to joists just above the foundations of a house. The timber frame has been engineered to create an open plan layout on each floor of the office ensuring. If there s wall board covered ceiling suspended from the underside of that floor the dead load increases to about 10 pounds per square foot. Some newer homes have manufactured i beam shaped joists.
